Nike Dunk Decon Honors Woodland Regions with Floral Embroidery

 In Nike, Sneakers

This year, the N7 team couples up with the loved SB Dunks to give us the Nike Dunk Decon. Members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and Ojibwe communities collaboratively designed the two exciting colorways. Traditional motifs and floral embroidery inspired by the Great Lakes and the Woodlands regions make this design memorable.

What is the Nike N7 initiative?

Since its debut in 2009, the Nike N7 initiative has focused on getting youth in Native American and Indigenous communities in North America moving —so they can lead healthier, happier, and more successful lives. With CAFAmerica’s administration, Nike has successfully donated more than $8 million in grants to more than 270 communities and organizations.

The funding goes into programs that introduce participants to various sports and physical activities that many had never tried before. This simultaneously instills a sense of self and fosters a culture of team-building and togetherness.

The Nike Dunk Decon N7 Floral Dream

The Great Lakes and Woodland regions inspire the intricate details throughout the sneaker’s upper. The Nike Dunk Decon features a thinner ankle collar, and chunky stitching throughout the shoe, including on the Swoosh logos. The beauty is dropping in two different colorways, Light Green Spark and Sail Red.

Both pairs rock a mix of materials: a canvas base with leather overlays. The Sail Red pair features Red accents on the heels, Swooshes, and tongue tag. you will find an exposed stitch pattern as well as Red “N7” logos and branding on the tongues, heels, and sock liner. A White midsole and translucent outsole round out the main features of the sneaker. The highlight of the show?  The colorful floral embroidered prints on the Sail overlays and insoles.

As for the Light Green Spark pair, it also comes in a canvas base and leather overlays, but with a White midsole and translucent outsole to round out the main features of the sneaker. Whereas these kicks’ highlight is the floral embroidery prints on the Black overlays and insoles.

“When ideating for this collection, I really wanted to create something that reflects the beauty of Native culture through the individualistic lens of skate,” says designer Michael French (Navajo/Dine). “From the embroidery and maple graphic to the deck you ride and the trees growing on Haudenosaunee and Ojibwe land, this Dunk doesn’t just ask to be skated in. It says, ‘Tell the story.’”
